How do I get my business on Google Maps?

Set up your free Google Business listing. About 10 minutes. This is what makes you show up on Maps.

Your website is one thing. Google Business Profile is a SEPARATE free tool from Google. It's what makes you appear:

  • On Google Maps when someone searches for "plumber near me"
  • In the box of 3 local businesses with photos and stars at the top of search results

You want both. Here's how to set it up.

Step 1 — Go to the right place

Visit business.google.com.

Step 2 — Click "Add your business"

Or "Manage now" if you've been there before.

Step 3 — Type your business info

IMPORTANT: Type your business name, address, and phone EXACTLY the same way they appear on your website. If your site says "Acme Plumbing LLC" don't type "Acme Plumbing" here. Same name, same address, same phone. Google checks these match.

Step 4 — Verify it's really you

Google needs to confirm you actually own the business. They'll do one of these:

  • Mail you a postcard with a code (takes 5 days)
  • Call your business phone with a code
  • A short video call where you show your storefront

Pick whichever option Google offers — they're all fine.

Step 5 — Fill out your profile

Once verified:

  • Add your hours
  • List your services
  • Upload at least 5 photos (your best work, your storefront, your team)
  • Paste your website link

That's it. You'll start showing up on Maps and in local searches within a few days.

Why this matters: most of your customers will find you through Google Maps before they ever visit your website. A complete profile makes you look more trustworthy than competitors who haven't bothered.
